Summary

Description

A depiction of the atomic structure of the atom. The darkness of the corresponds to the line-of-sight integral over the of the 1s. The magnified is schematic, showings in pink ands in purple. In reality, the nucleus (and the wavefunction of each of these) is also spherically symmetric. (For more complicated nuclei this is not the case.)
